DAYBREAK’S DEDICATED:
Nissa and Zev earn the two priority parking spots in front of Daybreak! Nissa breaks onto the podium for the first time and veteran Zev just barely edged out the dynamic duo of Kathy and Kevin who refuse to go down without a fight. Congrats to all our dedicated and fitting that this is announced on this special day…
A NOTE FROM MEL & RAP:
Today marks the one-year anniversary of Daybreak CrossFit and words cannot express our gratitude for the community that YOU helped to build.
All this pursuing of better started out as a casual conversation that took place over a couple of drinks. It was Tequila Ocho on the rocks w/two limes, if you must know.
Within 6 months of that conversation, we found ourselves in a parking lot with 40 of you crazies, who didn’t mind throwing down in the frigid New England fall. That crew never complained about pulling frozen barbells and kettlebells out of a temporary storage bin for over 2 months.
When we officially opened our doors, on November 4, 2013, we had the foundation of an amazing community. We were taken aback at how quickly that community has grown and how the whole has become so much greater than the sum of its parts. It’s a community that has shown us time and time again, that we have built something special. While there are too many to list, here’s what we think makes us different. We’ve seen our community…
- be humble in victory
- be strengthened in defeat
- be generous without needing recognition
- be unconditionally supportive
- be self-policing and intolerant of biases
We know there are plenty of “fitness” options in Metrowest. We are just grateful that you choose to spend that one hour of your day pursuing your better with us.
CrossFit’s founder summed it up best when he said:
“The magic is in the movement, the art is in the programming, the science is in the explanation, and the fun is in the community.”
“Cindy” first time I’ve met her- 13+ 8, blue band for pull-ups
She’s a keeper, Kathy! Nice work!
“Cindy” 14 + 15, green band pull-ups
11/4/13 – 15+6 Rx
5/19/14 – 18+19 Rx
11/4/14 – 19+1 Rx
Still not at 20 rounds, but getting closer each time. Still, have to be happy about a 12 rep PR. Pull-ups were all unbroken and felt good. Push ups started to go on the 4th round. Air squats need to be faster throughout the entire WOD to ensure I leave enough time to struggle on the pull-ups. I was thru 10 at 10, almost 15 at 15 but thats where it died. Until next time…
wow dude. flying.
“Cindy” – 20+8 Rx. that puts me on the board until the lunatics at 12:30 come in and blow it up. pull ups unbroken. pushups unbroken until round five or six and then was doing sets of 6/4. air squats felt solid but slow
Cindy – 18+5 with a weight vest.
A vest? Who talked you into that? And still 18+. Nice work
I was trying to sneak into the 8:30, and Rap was standing there with the vest…
Cindy.
the good: butterfly pullups the whole way.
the bad: my worst score since I was brand new. 12+15 Rx.
there are good days and bad days. (really should have broken push-ups from the beginning… need a better plan next time).
fistbump on the butterfly Sam!
thanks! I was flopping all over the place like a fish out of water… but it was fun!
Cindy: It’s days like this that i need to remind myself that the point is to get a good workout (which I did), and not to always try to win (which I decidedly did not). 15 + 15 Rx (although I did get a stern talking to in round 5 regarding my pushup form, which I admit, was shite).
18+1 w/ 20# vest
Cindy: 12 +16 RX
“Cindy” Dear, dear Cindy.. RX 14 First time to RX this WOD. I felt good about my standards & form..
thats amazing. 14 your first time Rx? crazy. first time i did this Rx I got 8
Thanks Sam!! 🙂 I’ve been working really hard on my PU’s!!
“Cindy” 18 Rx
Cindy- 14 + 12 RX. Not as much of a PR as I was hoping for but a PR nonetheless. Previous score in May was 14+5 with 5 reg push-ups and 5 knee pushups.
GreAt job to everyone today! People are crushing it!!!
Not working out today but I had to post a hearty congratulations to Mel and Rap on your one year anniversary!! If tequila is the elixir of pursuing better, pursuing what’s possible and making a success of it then goodbye Johnny Walker, hello Ocho! Nice work you guys. You have an exciting future ahead of you!
Did a half Cindy. 10+21. Couldn’t get my back to loose up and started to get worse. So I pulled the plug. Damn you squat snatch….it’s officially on like Donkey Kong between us.
Congrats on 1 year in!!!! I’m proud to be part of the community.
Smart move and hard to do. Way to listen to your body… now on to fight those squat snatches!
Cindy 22+4 rx, not a PR, but the first time I’ve done Cindy in a while, so I will take it. Congrats Mel and Rap on 1 great year. Happy I am here to celebrate it now!
SO super awesome, Jen!
Great Job Jen – thats incredible!!!
Cindy: 9+3 Rx. It may have been 8+3 (noting for posterity and honesty!). I’m slow on push-ups but I’m proud of getting through them. No matter how many rounds you do, you gotta think of the total volume of push-ups and feel proud. 90 is a big number for me on one day!
Love this
Cindy: 13+9 RX
NICE!!!
Cindy 13+1, banded pull ups, knee push ups
Leisurely half-Cindy: 5+20. Plus 10 minutes on the bike.
Brian C crushed it tonight.
I missed you!?!?? AHHH!
Cindy – 16 RX. First time I’ve done this one. Push-ups got me. They get me every. Single. Time.
So excited to be part of Daybreak, congratulations Mel and Rap on your one year anniversary! Thank you to each of you, Kate, Michele and Sarah! Can’t say enough how much you all ROCK!
Cindy: 10+5 Strict blue band pull ups, knee push ups. (Almost same score but improvement from ring rows and bench push ups)
Grateful to be a part of Daybreak. Congrats on the 1yr anniversary!
When the WOD was posted last night I thought…oh, crap. Push ups have continuously evaded me despite making gains in every other aspect of my fitness the last two years. Time to get down to business – Priority push up focus this month.
Congrats Mel and Rap! Grateful to be part of the DCF community.
Cindy 23 rx.
Thanks Megan for the push.
Nice
Cindy- 12RX
21 RX. Had a lofty goal of 24 prior to the WOD. I tore my hand with about a minute to go. I might have been able to sneak another round in, but I ultimately called it around 19 minutes. Overall i’m pretty happy to have scored over 20 rounds for my first Cindy. Thanks to Kate for some great coaching cues on my butterflies! Brian killed it! Way to go man.
Cindy: 15+8 Rx all sets of pull-ups complete, squats felt strong and steady throughout. Then there were push ups. Need to spread them out sooner.
Cindy
11 rounds
First time
I did regular push-ups for the first two rounds then switched to knee PUs when my arms literally turned to rubber. Blue band pull-ups/last three rounds ring dips when blister started to form. My push-ups really slowed me down but I’m very happy that I got 20 regular ones in. Congrats on the one year anniversary, Daybreak is a special place.
“Cindy” – my last WOD at DCF for several weeks so glad it was one of the “Mean Girls”. I had to do single jumps up the the bar for my pull ups so I’m not sure I can really call it Rx but it didn’t feel like that was easier than kipping- yikes! In any event, 15+18 which is a new PR over my last time at 14 – it felt like a huge difference.
Love Mel and Rap and congrats on putting together something really special at DCF.
15 + 5 Rx
Cindy 14+10 RX, goal was 15. Damn push-ups.
15 +15 Rx – first time
