Meet Sarah + Kevin!

We’ve been lucky these past 4 years to have The Mulcahey’s as a part of our crazy Daybreak family. They leave on their new adventure at the end of this month, and to say we will miss them is an understatement. This dynamic duo will leave big shoes that no one will fill. We love you guys and wish you all the best.

About Sarah + Kevin

S: I live in Sudbury, with my sometimes inappropriate but amazing husband Kevin, our son Cade (10), and my other two sons, Odin and Thor (aka., the dogs). I work at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, in clinical research. I have been doing CrossFit for just under 4 years. I am typically at the 12:30pm, unless life gets in the way and then you will find me at any class I can fit in.
K: I’m a Scorpio – Chicks dig me because I rarely wear underwear, and when I do it’s usually something unusual….I like long walks on the beach, cave-aged Gruyere and a nice Chianti……. seriously….even though all of that is true:
I live in Sudbury with my wife Sarah, son Cade (10) and our two Pugs….Thor and Odin. I’m VP of Americas Corporate Sales at Carbon Black, leaving after just under 8 years and a successful IPO …going back Active Duty Army for at least a year. 26 years Military, Active Navy for 5 years – Vermont Army National Guard for 21 years. 4 Deployments – 2 Navy Persian Gulf – Army Iraq/Kuwait 2004-2005, Afghanistan 2010. Just finished School – Masters in Homeland Security from Northeastern.
Been doing CrossFit for just under 4 years. I’m normally a 6:30 am class kind of guy, since I’ve been on the slide at Carbon Black, I think I’ve tried every single time-slot. I do like the 12:30 as well.

1- What keeps you coming back to CrossFit each day?
S: The screaming and grunting….No seriously, just like everyone it is the people and the coaching. After swimming throughout my entire life I struggled to find a program that worked for me. CrossFit was the answer. Daybreak has given me the structure and community I need to be successful at fitness and in life. I tell everyone I found my tribe at Daybreak!
K: This is without a doubt, the longest, sustained and effective regimen I’ve ever had. Like almost anything in life, it’s all about the people around you; to include members and coaching staff. I look forward to it – it’s part of my life – I love it.

2- Tell us about your move. Where are you going? Why? When are you coming back to us?
S: UGH, the f’ing Army….Just kidding. Kevin has a great opportunity to go Active Duty, but this time in the US so we are all moving together to Essex, VT (right near Burlington). Honestly, it is a total bummer in so many ways, but also an adventure I am glad we are taking together, which beats him being deployed to Afghanistan again. I will still work for Vertex and will need to be in Boston more often than I probably would like, but that means you will likely hear…I mean see… me around the gym periodically. As Kevin says 50:50 we will be back next year….does the Army still need Kevin? Do we like Vermont? All things we need to figure out. Also, even if we are in VT longer than a year the entire family will always be back for the beer mile.
K: Moving to Essex Junction VT. I’ll be working in Operations for the 86th Infantry Brigade – 10th Mountain Division based out of Jericho VT which is about a 10 minute commute past 3 farms with a beautiful backdrop of a snow-capped Mt. Mansfield. We have to figure out if the Army is going to work full-time, and if VT works for us – I give it a 50/50, we may end up back here this time next year…we’ll see.
3- If you could pick actors to play your family in a movie about your life, who would you pick?
S: Yuck, I am no good at these questions…I asked Cade who would play him and he said the actor who plays Anakin Skywalker….Kevin = James Dean and me = Sandra Bullock
K: Yikes….. Gerard Butler, Scarlett Johansson, Jake Matthew Lloyd (Anakin Skywalker as a little kid).
4- If you could turn any activity into an Olympic Sport, what would you have a good chance at winning a medal for?
S: Talking for as long as possible without ever repeating a story. It’s a gift.
K: Beer Mile – or 10k….pretty much anything involving alcohol-infused calisthenics – it’s pretty much my jam.
5- What’s your spirit animal (an animal that represents you)?
S: One day Cade said “you know mommy your spirit animal is a Cougar.” But I really think it is a dog. I am typically happy, I love having people around me, and I can’t say no to anything.
K: Honey Badger
