For 28 days, Daybreakers’ impressive commitment to eating quality foods in the correct quantities made for amazing results. Several members lost 10+ pounds and 8+ inches off their measurements. And with measurement losses came performance gains. “Jackie” times dropped by minutes and Max Cleans increased by tens of pounds.

CRUNCHING THE NUMBERS:

To determine our winners, we ranked members in each of the following: (a) % measurements gains, (b) % Clean and “Jackie” performance gains, and (c) Daily Nutrition Log scores. We used one of the typical CrossFit ranking methodologies to score each member in each of the 3 initiatives and then added the rankings together. The member with the lowest cumulative ranking wins. For example, if Rap had the 3rd best nutrition total, the 6th best Jackie and clean improvement, and the 4th most dramatic measurement changes, then he would have a total of 13 points. Then we stack rank all members after adding ranks across all three categories.

NOW WHAT?

Put away your scale, measuring cups and measuring spoons, for at least two weeks. Keep eating quality foods but eyeball your portions. Then, go back to the weighing and measuring for just a week, to keep your guesstimating skills sharp. And, get inspired by our winners and how they made it work…

From Cory:

The Zone is something I can do day to day and not just during the challenge. Eating is not such a big ordeal on the zone. I am able to put things together easily, now. It took some getting used to but now I know what I need to do. It’s not about being perfect but keeping on track and allowing myself to eat what I want in portions.

The support from Daybreak was the biggest piece for me. Everyone (coaches, Daybreakers, newbies) was so supportive and asked how it was going everyday. All the posts really helped to push me to eat and work out. There wasn’t a day where it was an option not to workout or eat in the Zone. It helped me at home to have someone doing the challenge with me and making me accountable. While I am not exactly where I want to be I am going in the right direction. Thanks so much Mel! This challenge gave me the push I needed to get back to being healthy.

From Sara:

1. Eggs…so many eggs.
2. Progenex.  “No artificial sweetener,” we were told.  Well, ha, major loophole here.  I took this one and ran with it.  Sucralose, you complete me.
3. Mel, who let me text her incessantly from the grocery store with questions like “Can I eat corn tortillas?” and “Does this herbal tea seem ok?”
4. My husband Jeff who did the challenge with me, meaning I prepared 80% of his zone meals for him and he happily ate them.
5. The motivation of getting visibly thinner.  I’m a girl and, sadly, this still matters a lot to me.
