Had to add to this. My thought process on this work out (for clarification rowing is not my movement)
Read the posted WOD before going to bed and thought “rest day” but that was Wednesday.
Woke up and thought “go back to bed”
Got in car and thought “who serves breakfast at 5 in the morning”
Arrived and started to think “I got this” Even set a mental goal of 8:00 minutes.
Mel counted down and we were off to the races. First 200 was encouraging and then I realized what was going on and it was a mental and physical push to survive.
I became thankful that Zev was not on the rower next to me. Russ and John were on either side of me and crushed it and I started thinking just finish before the time cap.
Actually survived and got a PR by 4 seconds. First goal for 2016 is improving on rowing.
Great write up! Moral of the story… JUST WALK IN THOSE DOORS! That’s it. Stop thinking, get your WOD on and see what happens. You may just surprise yourself with a PR. I’m still shocked after 5 years of this I still manage to PR when I’ve completely written the WOD off based on my mood, soreness, work/family hassles, etc.
7:58 / 10RX 13 second PR- strategy was to try to hold 1:58 the whole way. Hovering just above 2:00 with 800 to go. Next time: play more mental games and break this up into smaller chunks. Amazing job Sara Brown!
6:40 + 25 wbs – failed today and not sure where I lost it. Was cranking through the first 1,000 meters at 1:35-1:40, slowed down for the third 500 and I guess didn’t go hard enough the last 300.
Like Zev… I also really died in the third 500. I was up over 2:00 for a little there before I snapped out of it. 2k is such a mental challenge. Congrats to all those that PRd today.
7:01.2 and 36 Rx 10 secs off of PR, felt good all the way through row.
-Mental notes for self-
1 pull = ~10meters, I usually close my eyes and pull. Figured about 180 pulls would get the job done, it actually took 185 pulls. Checked in at 50 pulls, 100 pulls but was late on my last check in and had 150m left when I started my final sprint when I planned on starting at 250m to go. Pulls averaged 1:45 splits and nothing over 1:50.
Took a full minutes to crawl over to wall balls and pick up ball. 3 sets of 10 and finished with 6. Wasted about 90 secs during wall balls.
Final note, don’t forget cell phone next time. Pull myself back in mentally before I leave and make sure. Have everything, lol.
Just like Scott, I thought “rest day” as soon as I saw this posted last night (my least favorite sentence in the English language just might be “hop on an erg”). Glad I didn’t submit to the negativity and head down the cherry picking road. PRd my 2k row by almost a minute (and about 20 sec faster than what I was shooting for today).
So many awesome 2K ROWS!!! The 5:30p killed it last night. Big time rows.
This time:
7:41.1 / 35
Last time:
7:35 / 42
Looking forward to getting at this one again.
